Barbado da Terceira’s origin lies in Portugal. They were bred mainly for the purpose of herding and guarding. Primarily, they were present in the Atlantic island of Terceira in the Azores.
The breed was introduced to mainland of Portugal somewhere at the end of the 20th century.
